For UK homeowners, this could be one of those moments.

Every so often, there comes a point where waiting simply becomes more expensive than acting.
For UK homeowners, this could be one of those moments.
At present, qualifying energy-saving materials, including many insulation products, benefit from 0% VAT, a measure introduced to encourage homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
However, under the current legislation, this VAT relief is due to end on 31 March 2027.
Will it be extended?
Perhaps.
Will it disappear?
Possibly.
The simple truth is that nobody knows.
What we do know is that, as things stand today, this summer represents the last full season to plan, organise and complete insulation work before the current VAT relief is scheduled to come to an end.
A Changing Landscape
At the Spray Foam Advice Centre, we have watched the home insulation industry evolve dramatically over recent years.
Government funding schemes have changed.
Eligibility rules have changed.
Mortgage lender attitudes have changed.
Surveyors' recommendations have changed.
The industry today looks very different from the one many homeowners entered just a few years ago.
That is why we believe homeowners should always make decisions based on the information available today—not on assumptions about what may happen tomorrow.
Why This Matters to Spray Foam Homeowners
Every week we speak to homeowners who have taken the difficult decision to remove spray foam insulation from their roofs.
Whether prompted by mortgage concerns, a property sale, insurance requirements or simple peace of mind, the result is often the same.
A loft that is once again able to breathe...
...but one that now has little or no thermal insulation.
Removing spray foam is only part of the journey.
The next step is restoring the energy efficiency of your home using appropriate loft insulation.
If the current VAT relief ends as planned, the cost of completing that work could increase.
We Have Seen This Before
One lesson we have learned over many years is that government incentives rarely remain unchanged forever.
Support schemes evolve.
Funding priorities shift.
Tax incentives begin and end.
That does not mean VAT relief will definitely disappear in March 2027.
Equally, it would be unwise to assume it will automatically continue.
For homeowners considering insulation improvements, uncertainty is rarely a reason to delay.
Don't Leave It Until the Last Minute
If your loft is currently uninsulated, or if you are planning spray foam removal over the coming months, now is the ideal time to start preparing.
You don't need to rush into decisions.
But you should begin gathering information.
- Check your current EPC.
- Speak with your energy supplier or local authority about any available insulation schemes.
- Obtain quotations for replacement loft insulation.
- Plan your project well before the March 2027 deadline.
Leaving everything until early 2027 may reduce your options, increase waiting times and potentially mean missing out on the current VAT relief altogether.
Our Advice
Nobody can predict future Government policy.
Nobody can promise today's incentives will still exist next year.
But we can say this with confidence:
Planning early has never put a homeowner at a disadvantage.
If the VAT relief is extended, you've lost nothing.
If it isn't, you'll almost certainly be glad you acted while the opportunity was still available.
Independent Advice You Can Trust
The Spray Foam Advice Centre exists to help homeowners make informed decisions—not rushed ones.
If you've already removed spray foam, or you're considering doing so, we'll help you understand your options, explain the next steps, and point you towards the most appropriate sources of support for improving your home's energy efficiency.
Because protecting your home doesn't end when the spray foam comes off. It's what happens next that matters most.
